DePaul Arcade Cabinet
Role:
Project Manager
Electronics Designer
Description:
In this project I was tasked with guiding a group of designers through the process of fabricating a custom arcade cabinet from the ground up. I created a project development plan and budget which we then presented to secure $30,000 in funding to complete this project. During the project I oversaw development to help maintain our design vision and ensure deadlines for deliverables were met. I was the lead electronics designer, so I was additionally responsible for all of the computer hardware and the control board for the cabinet, while overseeing the creation of the lighting. The cabinet features custom art created in-house to showcase the 11 DePaul made video games that are playable on the cabinet.
Take-away:
Seeking funding was an incredible opportunity for me to hone my budgeting and pitching skills for large scale projects. The arcade cabinet was one of the first industrial design projects where I worked with other fabrication shops to complete our project, so I had to adapt to not only our schedule, but theirs as well. This was also an incredible opportunity to merge my experience with game development with my skills in physical fabrication.
